The Women Leadership Institute (WLI) today marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 8th Anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to empowering women and advancing leadership across Africa. Since its inception, the Institute has championed initiatives that strengthen women’s voices in leadership, foster inclusion, and drive transformational change through the esteemed and awesome leadership style of its Founder and Chairperson, Her Excellency, Amb. Dr. Kema Chikwe.

In her speech, Dr. Chikwe praised President Tinubu's policy direction, especially his recent instructions to State Governors regarding poverty alleviation, power, and agriculture. She highlighted the importance of women not just being recipients of these policies, but also being actively involved in their creation and implementation. She stressed that when women and men lead together, nations prosper, noting that “the power of partnership is real, and when purpose meets action, transformation follows.” Looking forward, she announced that the Women Leadership Institute is transforming into a full-fledged university, a step aimed at institutionalizing leadership development for women across generations.
This year’s anniversary celebration was not only a moment to reflect on WLI’s journey but also an opportunity to highlight its vision of shaping a future where women lead with impact and influence.

Cecilia Umoren, the keynote speaker, encouraged women to stop paying attention to stories and political tricks, as women can be their own worst enemies. Ms Umoren highlighted the importance of women coming together, engaging actively in politics, and contributing to national development.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “POWER IN PARTNERSHIP, Purpose in Action,” underscored the importance of collaboration and collective responsibility in achieving meaningful progress. Through partnerships across government, business, and civil society, WLI continues to advance leadership development, capacity building, and advocacy. The program featured inspiring discussions, thought-provoking insights, and renewed commitments to strengthen networks of women leaders who are driving transformation in their various spheres.
The event drew an impressive gathering of women from across the country, representing diverse walks of life, including business leaders, entrepreneurs, civil servants, and policymakers. Men from government agencies and executive offices also joined in solidarity, reflecting the spirit of inclusivity and shared purpose. Notably, representatives from different chapters of the Women Leadership Institute Network were present, reinforcing the power of WLI’s growing community. The anniversary was a true celebration of resilience, partnership, and purposeful action, setting the stage for even greater impact in the years to come.
