A polyvalent professional and a development practitioner with a rich multi-sectorial background, Anthony Ubani has over 25 years of successful leadership experience in building strong program development platforms. With expertise in leadership, governance and communication development and a keen focus on gender and youth programming, Ubani has provided transformative leadership to several local and international development organizations; delivered papers and facilitated capacity building training workshops/seminars in Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Dubai , US and the UK; and consulted for leading local and international development agencies. An alumnus of Manchester Business School, Manchester University; University of Lagos, Akoka; Lagos State University, Ojo; and Nigerian Institute of Journalism. He also received other continuous training development from the Center for Parliamentary Studies, UK; Mediation Training Institute, UK; Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Nigeria and Mississippi Consortium for International Development, USA.
Prior to taking up appointment as premier President/CEO of WLI, Ubani has served variously as Program Director, Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI), Lagos; Executive Director, Campaign for A New Nigeria (CANN), Lagos; Managing Consultant, Hopefield Associates Limited, Abuja; Ag. Country Director, Mississippi Consortium for International Development, Nigeria Country Office, Abuja; CEO, Global Office Limited, Abuja; Director General/CEO, Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI), Abuja; Program Consultant to the International Republican Institute (IRI), Nigeria Country Office; Principal Public Relations Officer, Institute for Peace & Conflict Resolution (IPCR), the Presidency; Media and Publicity Consultant to the Goodluck- Sambo Presidential Campaign Council, (2011) Abuja; Chairman Collage of Fellows, Africa Business school, Abuja; Member of the European Union sponsored Niger Delta Dialogue (NDD) in Nigeria; Faculty member of DCP Thinking & Learning Lab( DCP TLL); Chairman, Governing Board of Order paper Advocacy Initiative (OAI); Convener LeadHub and Future Seminars; and Chief Executive Officer, Africa Leadership Advantage.
In addition to membership of several professional associations, Ubani is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA), Fellow of the African Business School (ABS), Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN), professional member of the Institute of Directors, (IoD) London, member American Association for Training & Development, member International leadership Association (ILA), Member Nigeria Institute of management (NIM),Member Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ),member Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators.(ICMC) Nigeria, and member Association of Corporate Governance Professionals of Nigeria, (ACGPN).In 2006, President Olusegun Obasanjo commended Ubani as “a young Nigerian who epitomizes the extraordinary creative and productive capacities that come naturally to the quintessential Nigerian.” In 1998, Ubani received a Priority Nomination from the American Biographical Institute (ABI) for biographical inclusion in the seventh edition of Five Thousand Personalities of the World“because of exemplary performance... and for the fine example you are setting for your peers and society".
In 2003, he received an award for “Outstanding contributions to the Development of MCID Nigeria Country Office.” In 2015, he received an Excellence award for“Contributions to the education industry in Nigeria”. In 2016, Ubani received Leadership Award from the President of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) and in 2017 he received another award as “Champion & Excellent Performance in Leadership”. An avid Chess player and a cerebral writer, Ubani writes a weekly column, “Leadership Agenda” and is also the author of the book “Reforming the Rally into a Party” and the editor of three highly acclaimed books“Giant Strides”, “Party Politics & Power Struggle in Nigeria” and “Moving From Third world To First: Effective Strategies for alleviating Corruption A Poverty in Africa”
Ubani is a highly sought after keynote speaker, trainer and development consultant. He enjoys playing Chess and writing poetry.
